Oral Surgery in Hythe.

The word surgery puts a lot of people off, and we understand why. But most of what we do here is routine. Wisdom teeth and difficult extractions, done gently by an experienced oral surgeon, with the area fully numbed and sedation available if you would rather be more relaxed.

What Our Patients Say

Rated five stars by patients like you.

The Basics

What Is Oral Surgery?

Oral surgery covers the procedures that need a bit more than a simple filling or a straightforward extraction. At Waterside that mainly means removing wisdom teeth, and taking out teeth that cannot be removed in the usual way, for example a tooth that has broken at the gumline or one that has not come through properly.
This work is done by our oral surgeon, who has over 20 years of experience in surgical dentistry, holds several postgraduate awards, and is a Fellow of the International College of Oral Implantology. In plain terms, this is their field and they do it regularly, not as an occasional extra.
We know the idea of surgery makes people anxious. So we take our time and talk you through each step. The area is fully numbed before anything starts, and if you would rather be more relaxed, we can offer sedation. If you are in pain right now, tell us, and we will do our best to see you the same day.
When you might need it:
  • A wisdom tooth that is painful, infected or stuck
  • A tooth that has broken off at or below the gumline
  • A badly decayed tooth that cannot be filled or crowned
  • A tooth that has not come through properly
  • A tooth that needs removing before other treatment can start
  • Roots left behind from a previous extraction
How we keep it comfortable:
  • Local anaesthetic with The Wand, so the area is fully numb
  • Oral or intravenous sedation if you are anxious
  • Longer appointments, so nothing is rushed
  • Digital X-rays to plan the procedure properly, with far less radiation
  • Clear aftercare advice to take home
  • The same familiar faces, before and after

Why It Matters

Why Have Your Surgery With Us

An experienced oral surgeon

Our oral surgeon has over 20 years doing this work and several postgraduate awards. Surgery is their field, not an occasional part of the job.

Strong pain control

We use The Wand, which numbs you without the big needle or the sting. You should not feel pain during the procedure, only a bit of pressure.

Sedation if you want it

For anxious patients we offer oral or intravenous sedation, so you can be far more relaxed through the whole thing.

A familiar place, familiar faces

You have your surgery in a practice you already know, with the same team, rather than a strange hospital department.

Same-day help when you are in pain

If a tooth is causing you real trouble, tell us and we will do our best to see you the same day.

Honest advice first

Not every tooth needs surgery. We tell you straight whether it does, what your options are, and what happens if you leave it.

The Process

What Happens When You Come In

01

We talk first

Before we look, we ask what you have noticed. Bleeding? Soreness? Bad breath? And if the dentist makes you nervous, tell us. It changes how we do things.

02

We check your gums properly

We examine your gums and teeth, measure where needed, and take digital X-rays if we need to see the bone underneath. This tells us exactly how far things have gone.

03

We show you what we found

On screen, so you can see it yourself rather than take our word for it.

04

A written plan and a price

What needs doing, what each step costs, and how to keep your gums healthy afterwards. You decide from there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions patients ask us.

A few of the things patients ask us most often. If your question isn't here, just get in touch — we're happy to talk it through.

The area is fully numbed with The Wand before anything starts, so you should not feel pain during the procedure, only some pressure or movement. It is normal to be a little sore once the numbness wears off, and we give you advice on managing that. If you are worried about pain, tell us and we can talk through sedation.

Yes. We offer oral sedation, which is a tablet, or intravenous sedation, which is given through a vein, for patients who feel anxious. Both help you feel calm and relaxed through the procedure. Tell us when you book so we can arrange it and explain how to prepare.

We give you clear aftercare advice to take home, including what to do and what to avoid while the area heals. How quickly you feel back to normal varies from person to person and depends on the procedure, so we will tell you what to expect for your treatment. If anything worries you afterwards, call us and we will help, usually the same day.

It depends on the tooth and how complex the surgery is, so we cannot give one price for everyone. You get an itemised cost before anything starts. A new patient examination is £92 and is the first step, where we assess the tooth and give you an exact price. Our Practice Plan and finance options can help spread the cost.

Yes, and you are not alone. A lot of people put off surgery because they are frightened. Tell us when you book. We use The Wand for almost pain-free injections, we allow longer appointments so nothing is rushed, and you can bring someone in with you or hold a nurse's hand. If you need more, we offer oral or intravenous sedation.
