Early Orthodontic Assessment

Earlier than many parents expect, because the jaw and teeth are easiest to guide while they are still growing. There is no single right age that suits every child, so the simplest thing is to mention it at a check-up. We will tell you whether now is the right time to look more closely, or whether it is better to wait.

No. An assessment is just a look at how things are developing. Often it tells us everything is on track and the best step is simply to keep an eye on it. If we do think guiding things early would help, we explain why and talk you through the options first.

Because a child's jaw is still growing, and that gives a window where some problems can be guided gently over time. Left until later, the same problems sometimes need longer or more involved treatment. Looking early does not always mean acting early. Sometimes it just means we know what to watch.

Then we tell you so, and usually suggest we check again at future visits as your child keeps growing. Reassurance is a perfectly good outcome, and a very common one.

No. It is a gentle look at the teeth, jaw and bite, along with photos or digital X-rays if we need them. There is nothing about it that hurts.

An early assessment usually starts at your child's regular check-up, which is £27.50, or £46 for a first visit. If we recommend a fuller assessment or any treatment, we always explain what it involves and what it costs in writing before anything begins.
