Dental Dentures

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth. They can replace a few teeth or a whole set, and they are made to fit your mouth so you can chew, speak and smile with confidence again. Modern dentures look far more natural than many people expect.

Treatment Overview

What are Dentures?

Dentures are false teeth set into a gum-coloured base that sits over your gums. They are removable, so you take them out to clean them, and they are made to fit you rather than being off the shelf. There are two main types, and which one suits you depends on how many teeth you are missing.
A full denture replaces all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw, or both. It rests on the gums and, on the upper jaw, is held in place by suction. A partial denture fills in the gaps around the teeth you still have, and clips gently onto them to stay put. It also stops your remaining teeth drifting into the spaces.
Replacing missing teeth does more than restore your smile. It brings back your bite, helps you eat a wider range of food, and supports the shape of your face, which can start to change when teeth are lost.
Dentures could suit you if you:
  • Have several missing teeth, or a whole jaw to replace
  • Want a more affordable way to replace missing teeth
  • Are not suitable for, or do not want, implants or a bridge
  • Have an old denture that no longer fits well
  • Want to fill gaps and stop the remaining teeth drifting
What you get here:
  • Longer appointments, so nothing is rushed
  • Dentures made to fit your mouth, not off the shelf
  • A try-in stage, so you see the look before it is finished
  • Adjustments to get the fit and bite comfortable
  • An itemised price before any work starts

The Process

What Happens When You Have Dentures Made

01

We assess your mouth

We check your gums, any remaining teeth and your bite, and talk through whether a full or partial denture suits you. We also cover your other options for replacing teeth.

02

We take impressions

We take impressions of your gums and teeth so your dentures are made to fit your mouth exactly.

03

A try-in stage

Before the dentures are finished, we try in a version so you can see the look and check the bite. This is your chance to tell us what you think while it can still be changed.

04

Fitting and adjusting

We fit your finished dentures and make any small adjustments so they feel comfortable. New dentures take a little getting used to, and we are here to tweak the fit if you need us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions patients ask us.

A few of the things patients ask us most often. If your question isn't here, just get in touch — we're happy to talk it through.

A full denture replaces all the teeth in a jaw and rests on the gums. A partial denture fills in around the teeth you still have and clips onto them. Which one suits you depends on how many teeth you are missing, and we will talk it through at your assessment.

Modern dentures look far more natural than many people expect. They are made to suit your mouth, and there is a try-in stage where you see the look and can ask us to change it before the dentures are finished.

New dentures take a little getting used to, and it is normal to start with softer foods and build up. Most people find they can eat a much wider range of food than they could with missing teeth. If the fit is bothering you, come back and we will adjust it.

Yes. Sometimes an adjustment or a reline is enough. If a lower denture keeps moving, implants can be used to hold it firmly in place, which many patients find life-changing. We can talk you through dental implants alongside your denture options.

It depends on whether you need a full or partial set and the materials used, so we give you an itemised price after your assessment. You will know the full cost in writing before any treatment starts, and you can spread it with our Practice Plan or finance.

You take them out to clean them, brush them daily and keep the gums and any remaining teeth clean too. We will show you exactly how to care for yours. If anything feels loose or sore, call us rather than putting up with it.

No. Depending on your situation, a bridge or dental implants may suit you better, and implants can also anchor a denture so it does not move. We will go through the cost and trade-offs of each with you so you can choose.

Yes. Tell us when you book. We allow longer appointments so nothing is rushed, and you can bring someone in with you or hold a nurse's hand. For any treatment that needs it, we use The Wand for almost pain-free injections, and we offer sedation if you need it.
