The Basics

What is Restorative Dentistry?

Restorative dentistry is the work that repairs or replaces teeth that are broken, worn, decayed or missing. It gets your mouth working properly again, so you can chew and speak in comfort, and it stops small problems turning into bigger ones.
The sooner a damaged tooth is dealt with, the more of it we can usually save, and the cheaper it tends to be. A filling starts from £136. Leave the same tooth too long and it can become a root canal from £700 with a crown from £805 on top. Where a tooth cannot be saved, we will always tell you honestly and talk you through replacing it.
Some of this work is done by clinicians with extra training in it. Root canals here are handled by a dentist with a Master's in Endodontic Practice, who treats referred cases from other dentists under a microscope. Implants are placed by a dentist with a Certificate in Implantology, who is a Fellow of the International College of Oral Implantology.
We are not going to rush you. Appointments here are longer on purpose, so there is time t explain what we can see and talk through your options.

Why It Matters

Why It Is Worth Fixing

You get your bite back

Missing or broken teeth make it hard to chew properly. Restoring them means you can eat what you want again.

It protects the teeth you still have

A gap puts extra load on the teeth either side, and they can drift or wear. Filling the gap protects them.

It saves the natural tooth where we can

A root canal and a crown can often save a tooth that would otherwise have to come out. Keeping your own tooth is almost always better.

It stops small problems growing

failing filling only gets worse. Dealing with it early usually means less treatment and less cost.

Your face keeps its shape

Losing teeth, and the bone under them, can slowly change how your face looks. Implants and dentures help hold that shape.

You get your confidence back

Being able to smile, talk and eat in front of people without worrying about your teeth makes a real difference.

The Process

What Happens When You Come In

01

We talk first

Before anyone looks in your mouth, we ask what is bothering you and what you want to be able to do again. If you are nervous, tell us. It changes how we do things.

02

A proper examination

We check the damaged or missing teeth, the
ones around them, your gums and your bite.
Digital X-rays show us what is happening below the surface.

03

We show you the options

Often there is more than one way to fix a tooth. We show you each one on screen, with the pros, the cons and the cost, so you can choose.

04

A written plan and a price

We start when you are ready. Whitening and
bonding can often be done soon after. Veneers have a lab stage, so they take a few weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions patients ask us.

A few of the things patients ask us most often. If your question isn't here, just get in touch — we're happy to talk it through.

A crown covers and protects a single damaged tooth that is still there. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring to the teeth on either side of the gap. An implant replaces a missing tooth on its own, with a titanium post fixed into the jaw. We will talk you through which one suits your situation and your budget.

No. That reputation comes from before modern techniques. We numb the tooth fully first, using The Wand for a gentler injection, and we work under a microscope for accuracy. Most patients say it feels much like having a filling. A root canal clears the infection and saves a tooth that might otherwise have to be taken out.

Not always, but often. If there is enough healthy tooth left, we would usually rather repair it with a filling, a crown or a root canal than take it out. If a tooth is too far gone, we will tell you honestly, take it out gently, and talk you through replacing it.

There are three main ones: an implant, a bridge or a denture. An implant is the most permanent and stands on its own. A bridge is fixed in place and uses the teeth either side of the gap. A denture is removable and is usually the most affordable. We will go through the cost and the trade-offs of each with you.

It is not a quick fix, and that is a good thing. After a first consultation to check there is enough bone, a small titanium post is placed in the jaw and left to heal and bond, usually six to eight weeks. We then take an impression and fit your new tooth about three weeks later. Every case is different, so we give you a timeline at the start.

Most people are, as long as there is enough bone to hold the implant. Our implant dentist can also carry out extra treatments, such as building up the bone, if you need them to make implants possible. It sounds more daunting than it is. The only way to know for sure is an assessment.

It depends on the tooth and the option you choose. As a guide, a filling starts from £136, a root canal from £700, and a porcelain bonded to metal crown from £805. Implants are priced per case, because every one is different. You get an itemised cost before anything starts, and you can spread the cost with our Practice Plan or finance.

Yes. Tell us before you come in. We use The Wand for almost pain-free injections, we allow longer appointments so nothing is rushed, and you can bring someone in with you or hold a nurse's hand. If you need it, we also offer sedation. A lot of our patients came to us after a bad experience elsewhere, so you are in good company.
